PHOTO COMING SOON!

Camille Smith, our new board president, says her goals for 2008-09 include "evaluating our outreach to visitors and new members, improving board organization and communication, and involving more friends and members in the 'care and feeding' of our church community."

Camille, who has been a part of our church since 2001, previously served on the board of trustees as treasurer and religious education chair and was also chair of the ministerial sabbatical committee. She has been active in fund-raising: organizing the church auction and yard sales and introducing the Great Lakes Scrip gift card program.

She lives near Waynesboro, Pa., with her partner, Robin Chute, and their son, Sam. When she's not teaching art at the Montessori Academy in Chambersburg, she enjoys quilting and has made wall hangings, chalice table cloths and a banner for our church.

Valerie Malmont is in her second term as our board secretary, with the responsibility of taking minutes at meetings and keeping the records of the church.

Valerie, who joined our church in January 2006, has considerable experience as a volunteer on organizational boards. She has been president and vice president of the Franklin County branch of the American Association of University Women; legislative chair on the board of the Pennsylvania AAUW; and a board member of the International Association of Crime Writers.

During her childhood and much of her married life, she lived all over the world, often working as a librarian. She has also published six mystery novels. A Chambersburg, Pa., resident, she and her husband Bruce have three grown children and four grandchildren. Her hobby is collecting anything to do with the Wizard of Oz.

Yvonne Pfoutz is chair of the finance committee, which is responsible for creating a budget, monitoring our finances, and fund-raising, including the annual pledge drive, the auction and gift card sales.

Yvonne has been a UUCH member since 1984. She has previously served on the board of trustees as program chair, religious education chair, president and membership chair. She is currently the church newsletter editor.

Yvonne and her husband Bill live near Waynesboro, PA and have one grown son. She is a writer, primarily of business newsletters, brochures and articles. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening and playing with their many cats and dogs.

Dodie Ruskie is the new chair of the program committee, which is responsible for Sunday services when our minister is not in the pulpit, usually one service per month during the regular church year from September through June and all services in July and August.

Dodie has been a UU since 1988 and a member of our church since 2003. She has previously served on our board as a trustee and chair of the membership committee. She has also been active with the church auction and meals for REACH homeless shelter. She also chaired the committee which produced our church cookbook.

Now retired, Dodie worked 36 years as a federal civil servant, primarily in the Department of Defense, where she met her husband, Howard. One of Dodie's passions is reading, especially mysteries. In 2004, she started our church's Mystery Discussion Group.

Bill Pfoutz is the new chair of the building and grounds committee, overseeing maintenance and improvements at our church home.

Bill joined our church in 1984. He has previously served on our board as president, building and grounds chair, RE chair, social concerns chair, and treasurer.

Bill and his wife, Yvonne, who live near Waynesboro, Pa., have one grown son. Bill works as a buyer at Cinetic Landis and in his spare time, he enjoys gardening and golf.

Rebecca Shaw is the new chair of the religious education (RE) committee. She says one of her goals is "to continue our hands on, minds on activities that engage all students and to encourage participation from the congregation in teaching RE classes."

Rebecca joined our church in 2005. She has been teaching RE classes and working with the social concerns comittee to provide supplies and volunteers for Winter Street Elementary.

Rebecca, a Hagerstown native, and her husband Mike live near Greencastle, Pa. They have one son, Zachary . Rebecca teaches for the gifted and talented programs at Winter Street Elementary School and Funkstown Elementary School in Washington County, MD.

She enjoys any kind of outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking photographing nature, swimming, and taking Zack to the park.

Ed Hagan is in his second term as chair of the membership committee, which is responsible for welcoming visitors, keeping attendance and membership records, producing a directory, and organizing other activities to attract and maintain church members. "I'd like to see us reach out into the community and claim more people of like minds," says Ed.

Ed first came to our church in the autumn of 2005 and joined in April 2006. A native of Philadelphia, he now lives near Hagerstown and says he moved to this area in part because of its proximity to the Appalachian Trail. He hopes to find more time to enjoy the outdoors, something he's been missing because of the demands of his work. Last year he opened his own law office speializing in credit related and business matters.

Ed has served on other organizations' boards, including Community Triangle of Washington County, which he helped found.

Fanny Crawford is chair of the faith in action committee (also known as social concerns).

Tracy Barlup is in the first year of a two-year term as trustee-at-large, .a two-year position without specific responsibilities, although many trustees take on special projects.
